About the property

What is Yallungah Boutique Hotel?

Yallungah is a 22-room boutique hotel occupying a restored 1896 homestead in the heart of Orange, New South Wales — Australia's premier cool climate wine region. The property combines heritage architecture and character with modern comfort, offering individually appointed rooms, à la carte breakfast, free parking, and a central location that places guests within walking distance of restaurants and minutes from over 40 cellar doors.

How old is the building?

The original homestead was built in 1896 during Orange's prosperous late Victorian era. The building has been carefully restored and extended to function as boutique accommodation while preserving original Federation-era features including pressed metal ceilings, timber floors, decorative fireplaces, and period joinery.

How many rooms does Yallungah have?

22 individually appointed rooms and suites across the heritage homestead and extended wings. Room types: Deluxe Queen, Deluxe King/Twin, Accessible Deluxe, Executive Suites, Accessible Executive Suite, and the Heritage Wing suites — The Yallungah Suite, The Steeple Suite, and The Beech Tree Garden Suite. All rooms include an ensuite bathroom, reverse-cycle air-conditioning, mini-bar, tea and coffee-pod facilities, smart TV, and free WiFi.

Where exactly is Yallungah located?

62 Byng Street, in the heart of Orange NSW. The property is seven minutes' walk from the main dining precinct (Lucetta, Fiorini's, the Union Bank, and other restaurants), five minutes' drive from the nearest cellar doors, and centrally positioned for accessing wine producers in all directions. Orange is roughly 3.5 hours' drive west of Sydney via the Blue Mountains. See our Location & Distances page for every distance that matters.

Rooms & suites

How much does it cost to stay at Yallungah?

From $329 for two people midweek in a Deluxe King, and from $439 on weekends (also two people in a Deluxe King) — both including a two-course à la carte breakfast in the Yallungah Dining Room (low season). Rates vary by season and day of the week, with midweek the most competitive; FOOD Week (April), Wine Festival (October), and long weekends may attract higher rates. Suites are priced higher, and seasonal packages are available when you book direct.

Does my room have a view or balcony?

Only The Yallungah Suite has a private balcony — it overlooks the Front Lawn and Byng Street (Orange's historic precinct). Every other room type looks onto the gardens (a garden outlook, rather than a picture-window view). Two Heritage Wing suites offer specific outlooks: The Steeple Suite catches glimpses of the neighbouring church steeples, and The Beech Tree Garden Suite catches glimpses of the heritage-listed beech tree.

Which rooms are quietest?

For guests who prefer a very quiet stay, Room 19 (Queen), Room 13 (Suite), and Rooms 5 or 6 (King) are least prone to surrounding noise and foot traffic. The Heritage Wing suites are well-situated for quiet, though the original heritage windows do let in more exterior sound. If you have specific needs — a quiet room, a particular suite, or a special-occasion stay — please note them when you book and we'll do our best to accommodate.

Can I request a specific room?

Yes, when booking direct. You can discuss your preferences with the Yallungah team — size, heritage character or contemporary style, outlook, natural light, bathtub or shower, quiet location within the property — and request a specific room or room type. Specific allocation is subject to availability but the team will do their best, particularly for bookings made well in advance.

Do rooms have bathtubs?

Some rooms have bathtubs and some have showers. Bathroom configurations vary between rooms due to the heritage building's architectural constraints. If a bathtub is important to your stay, specify this preference when booking and the team will recommend appropriate rooms.

Is there air conditioning and heating?

Yes. Every room has individual reverse-cycle climate control. Orange experiences genuine four-season weather — winter mornings can drop below zero and summer afternoons reach the high twenties — so climate control is essential and available year-round in all rooms.

Booking & policies

How do I book?

The best way to book is direct — through Yallungah's website, by phone on +61 2 5343 1884, or by email to bookings@yallungahhotelorange.com.au. Direct booking provides the best available rate, room preference priority, personalised pre-arrival planning, and flexible booking terms.

What is the cancellation policy?

Standard bookings can be changed or cancelled until 2 PM (local time) on or before 48 hours prior to arrival. After that time, a fee equal to one night's accommodation applies. No-shows are charged in full. Non-refundable rates cannot be changed or cancelled. Long-stay rates carry 2-night (7+ days) or 7-night (30+ days) cancellation fees within 48 hours of arrival. FOOD Week, Wine Festival, and peak-period bookings may have longer cancellation windows, confirmed at the time of booking.

What time is check-in and check-out?

Check-in from 2:00 PM. Check-out by 10:00 AM. Early check-in and late check-out may be available depending on occupancy — enquire when booking or on arrival. Luggage storage is available for guests arriving early or departing late who want to explore Orange without their bags.

Is there a minimum stay requirement?

For most dates there is no minimum stay — one-night bookings are welcome. During FOOD Week, Wine Festival, and some long weekends, a minimum two-night stay may apply. Check specific dates when enquiring.

What payment methods do you accept?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, cash, and EFTPOS (EFTPOS is in-person at the hotel). We do not accept Diners, JCB or UnionPay. Card surcharges apply in line with RBA guidelines — EFTPOS no fee, Visa/Mastercard 1.95%, American Express 3.95% — and end on 1 October 2026 under the RBA’s card payment reforms.

Are you pet friendly?

No pets — with the exception of assistance and support animals, which are welcome. This is the Travellers Group standard policy.

Do you allow children?

Yes — children are welcome when accompanied by an adult. There's no age restriction and Yallungah is not adults-only. A limited number of portacots are available on request. Families are best suited to The Beech Tree Garden Suite or The Yallungah Suite — both include a sofa bed alongside the King.

Arrival, parking & accessibility

What time does reception close?

Reception is staffed 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM every day.

How do I check in late?

If you're arriving after 7:00 PM, please let us know in advance. We'll send SMS instructions the day of arrival, and you'll retrieve your key from a lock box. Pre-check-in (completed by phone before you travel) is preferred and makes late arrival smoother.

Do you have parking?

Yes — free allocated parking on-site. Please stop at the check-in bay on arrival; a team member will advise your allocated space. Caravans and coaches are not permitted on the driveway. If you're arriving in a larger vehicle, please let us know in advance so we can direct you to an appropriate spot.

Is there a lift in the hotel?

Yes — Yallungah has one lift, which serves the first floor. The Executive Suites, the Accessible Executive Suite and the Queen Room are all on level one. There are no suites on the ground floor — the ground-floor rooms are the Deluxe King and the Accessible Deluxe King.

Is there a lift up to the Heritage suites?

No — the Heritage Wing has no lift. For guests with mobility needs we recommend the ground-floor Deluxe King or Accessible Deluxe King, or a first-floor suite reached via our lift. Our team is happy to assist with luggage — just let us know in advance so we can meet you at the check-in bay.

Is there accessible accommodation?

Yes — the Accessible Deluxe (King or Twin, ground floor) and the Accessible Executive Suite (first floor, reached by lift). The Heritage Wing has no lift, so we don't recommend Heritage rooms for guests with mobility needs. Contact the property to discuss your specific requirements so we can recommend the most suitable room.

Do you have an EV charger?

Not on-site. The nearest public chargers are the Tesla Superchargers at the Summer Centre / IGA complex in Orange, a short drive from the hotel.

Breakfast & dining

Is breakfast included?

A two-course à la carte breakfast in the heritage Yallungah Dining Room, featuring local and regional produce, is included with our B&B and package rates and can be added to any stay. Booking a B&B rate is the simplest way to include it.

Do we have to book in for breakfast?

Yes — please book breakfast either when you secure your accommodation or with the team at reception the afternoon before. Breakfast is served in the Yallungah Dining Room from 7:30 AM to 9:30 AM.

Do you have a restaurant?

Yallungah's on-site dining room — the Yallungah Dining Room — serves a two-course à la carte breakfast for in-house guests. Other meals are only served as part of group bookings or private events. For lunch and dinner in Orange, we happily recommend places nearby — and the team can book tables on your behalf.

Can you make restaurant reservations for me?

Yes. The team can book tables at Orange restaurants on your behalf, suggesting venues that suit your group size, dining preferences, budget, and occasion. For first-time visitors, this guidance ensures you dine at the right places on the right nights.

Wine country & local recommendations

Can you help plan my cellar door visits?

Yes. This is one of the most valued services Yallungah provides. The team knows the region's 40-plus producers personally and can recommend cellar doors based on your wine preferences, available time, group composition, and the specific conditions of your visit. For package bookings and direct reservations, personalised cellar door itineraries are prepared before your arrival.

Which wineries do you recommend?

It depends on what kind of experience you're after. For craft beer, Badlands Brewery. For a casual visit combined with a walk around Lake Canobolas, Rowlee or Seesaw. For an upmarket, premium tasting or lunch, Printhie or Fiorini's. Most wineries recommend booking ahead if you're planning a meal — call to confirm before you drive out.

Which restaurants do you recommend?

It depends on the occasion. Union Bank is a solid all-rounder. Gong Thai (at the Gladstone Hotel) is our pick for a casual, friendly, easy meal or takeaway. La Milano Italian is a good mid-range choice, particularly for their wood-fire pizza. Lucetta is our recommendation for formal Italian dining. Hey Rosey is worth a visit if you're after something more unusual. For a lunch out at a winery, try Printhie, Rowlee, or Macquariedale (which has views of Mt Canobolas). Monty's is a mid-to-high-end option. Fiorini's is the wow-factor destination — the chef previously headed Lolli Redini — worth booking well ahead for lunch or dinner.

What's genuinely open late in Orange (after 8 PM)?

Lucetta Dining serves until 11 PM Tuesday–Saturday. Ignite Bar & Grill is open until 10 PM Wednesday–Saturday. Union Bank until 10 PM seven days (closed Tuesdays in winter). For casual or takeaway: Gracies (burgers and beer) until 10 PM, Red Pepper Indian until 9 PM, Gong Thai at the Gladstone until 8:30 PM (last food order 8:20 PM).

Where's the best coffee or breakfast if I'm out early?

Byng Street Café opens 7:00 AM every day — that's our pick for early-starting guests. Scrumptious is another good breakfast option, and Racine, Sugarmill, or Provence for baked goods and coffee.

How do I get around Orange — Uber or taxi?

Taxi. There's only one Uber in Orange, so taxis are your reliable option.

Groups, events & business

Can Yallungah host a corporate retreat or conference?

Yes. The Lamrock Room accommodates corporate retreats, team offsites, small conferences, and workshops for up to 44 guests. The room can be configured boardroom, classroom, U-shape, or banquet style, with audiovisual equipment and catering available. With 22 rooms, the entire group can stay on site. See our Conference Accommodation page for detailed planning information.

Is Yallungah suitable for weddings?

Yallungah hosts intimate weddings and wedding-adjacent events. The Lamrock Room accommodates receptions for up to 44 guests, with accommodation for the wedding party and guests across the hotel's 22 rooms. The heritage property and established gardens provide a distinctive setting for wedding photography. Contact the hotel directly to discuss wedding enquiries and available dates.

Can I book for a group?

Yes. Group bookings for 4 or more rooms are coordinated through the Yallungah team, with options for group billing, room allocation, shared activities, and group dining arrangements. For exclusive-use bookings, the entire property can be reserved for your group.

How does a company book several rooms or set up direct billing?

Multi-room bookings and direct billing at Yallungah are arranged directly with the General Manager. Get in touch at bookings@yallungahhotelorange.com.au or +61 2 5343 1884 and we'll set up the account, agreed rates and invoicing to suit your team.

Can I extend my stay?

Yes — the easiest way is to phone or email us as soon as you know your new dates. Depending on your booking type there may be long-stay rate arrangements available.

Do you offer packages for special occasions?

Wine weekend packages, honeymoon arrangements, anniversary touches, and celebration coordination are all available. Discuss your occasion when booking and the team will ensure appropriate in-room touches, dining recommendations, and any other arrangements that mark the event.

Getting here

How do I get to Orange from Sydney?

Drive: 3.5 hours via the Great Western Highway and Mitchell Highway through the Blue Mountains. The drive passes through Katoomba, Lithgow, and Bathurst. It is scenic, straightforward, and manageable without breaks, though the Blue Mountains section offers excellent stops at Katoomba or Leura if you want to stretch your legs.

How do I get to Orange from Canberra?

Drive: 3.5 hours via the Barton Highway, Hume Highway, and Olympic Highway through Cowra. An alternative route via Bathurst takes approximately 4 hours but offers a different drive through the tablelands.

Is there a train or bus to Orange?

NSW TrainLink operates services to Orange, but schedules are limited and a car is effectively essential for visiting wine country. Driving or arranging a charter bus for groups is the practical approach for most visitors.
